Before you leave.
How much cash should you bring when travelling?
It all depends on the country's cash culture. In Japan, Vietnam or Morocco cash is still king: count the full daily budget in notes. In London or Singapore a modest reserve is enough. Our assistant calculates the envelope by destination, travel style and length of stay, at today's rate — excluding accommodation and flights.
Can you pay by card in Cuba or Iran?
No — Swiss cards do not work there. The whole stay is financed in cash, preferably euros, exchanged locally. Plan the entire budget before you leave.
Why new dollars for Bali and Indonesia?
Indonesian money changers only accept immaculate, recent US notes: folded, stained or old, they are refused or heavily discounted. We prepare new notes on request.
Small or large banknotes?
Both, in proportions that depend on the country: small notes for taxis, markets and tips (indispensable in India or Egypt), large notes to settle the hotel or to exchange locally at the best rate. The assistant proposes a precise mix per destination.
Is the rate guaranteed when I reserve?
Yes — a reservation locks the posted rate for 3 hours, with no obligation to buy. You come to the counter when it suits you; the price no longer moves.
What if the currency is not in stock (Maldives, Bahamas, Cuba…)?
Some currencies cannot be exchanged outside their country. The assistant then switches to the currency that is actually useful: US dollars in the Bahamas (1:1 parity) and the Maldives, euros in Cuba and Iran.
Where to exchange currency in Geneva before leaving?
At the Helvetica Exchange counter, Rue Pierre-Fatio 19, a short walk from the lake — Monday to Friday 8.30 am – 6.30 pm, Saturday 9 am – 5 pm. More than 70 currencies kept in stock, reservation by Telegram or on site.
